MONDAY'S GAME 8/16

Seattle Seahawks - QB Rotation: Matt Hasselbeck (1 Q), Seneca Wallace (2-4 Qs), Bryson Spinner.

Starting QB Matt Hasselbeck is expected to play about a quarter. Seneca Wallace will replace him and play the rest of the game. QBs Trent Dilfer and Brock Huard will not play (back problems).

Mike Holmgren liked what he saw from QB Bryson Spinner but has not decided if the quarterback will play at Green Bay.

Expect to see a lot of backups, including QB Seneca Wallace, rising WR Jason Willis and running backs Maurice Morris and Kerry Carter. And as the game nears its conclusion, expect to see a few players you have barely heard of.

Not making the trip to Green Bay: DE Grant Wistrom, TE Ryan Hannam, CB Jernaro Gilford, QBs Trent Dilfer and Brock Huard, WR Taco Wallace, DE Anton Palepoi, FS Arnold Parker and CB Kris Richard.

Green Bay Packers - QB Rotation: Bret Favre (1st Q), Tim Couch (2nd Q), Doug Pederson (3rd Q+), rookie Scott McBrien (may mop up late).

Coach Mike Sherman said he'd probably play Favre no more than a quarter. Tim Couch and Doug Pederson will split the rest of the game. QB Craig Nall (hamstring) will not play. Rookie Scott McBrien might play late in the fourth quarter if it isn't a close game.

Coach Sherman declared that RB Ahman Green's sore foot was fine and that he'd start Monday night, but don't look for him to play long.

Head coach Mike Sherman said the players ruled out for the game are QB Nall, center Mike Flanagan (knee), left guard Mike Wahle (knee), offensive tackle Brennan Curtin (staph infection), DEs Chukie Nwokorie (hamstring) and Ja'Dae McGuire (abdomen) and CB Chris Johnson (leg). LB Tyreo Harrison (ankle) is doubtful and CB Chris Watson (hamstring) is questionable.

The Packers have a new defensive coordinator in Bob Slowik (promoted from linebackers coach).

Cincinnati Bengals - QB Rotation: Carson Palmer (1st Q and into the 2nd Q), Jon Kitna (late in the 2nd Q and into the 3rd Q), while rookies Casey Bramlet and Scott Rislov will mop up.

QB Carson Palmer will start against the Buccaneers and could play much of the first half. Marvin Lewis wants to give the first-year starter a little more time than most starting quarterbacks in the preseason. Don't expect to see Palmer play the entire first half. Jon Kitna will go second while rookies Casey Bramlet and Scott Rislov will finish up.

Linebackers thin: LBs Landon Johnson (shoulder) and Khalid Abdullah (a possible season-ending ankle dislocation) are out.

Tampa Bay Bucs - QB Rotation: QB Brad Johnson (1-2 series), Chris Simms (will follow Johnson and play into the second), Brian Griese (3-4 Qs), rookie Jason Garrett.

Brad Johnson will play 1-2 series, Simms will take over in the first quarter, while Griese is expected to play most of the rest of the game.

Defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin has added some new wrinkles. "We're playing a little more man-to-man coverage than we usually do," cornerback Brian Kelly said. "We're bumping a little more than we usually do. And we're being aggressive in different areas."

CB Derrick Brooks won't play in Monday's game.

The offensive line is thin. LT Derrick Deese, LG Matt O'Dwyer and RG Matt Stinchcomb will sit out this game because of their various injuries.

THURSDAY'S GAME 8/19/04

New York Giants - QB Rotation: Kurt Warner, rookie Eli Manning, Jesse Palmer (exact amount of playing time still to be determined).

The Giants have a new head coach in Tom Coughlin.

Carolina Panthers - QB Rotation: Jake Delhomme, Chris Weinke, Rodney Peete, rookie Rod Rutherford (exact amount of playing time still to be determined).

FRIDAY'S GAME 8/20/04

Minnesota Vikings - QB Rotation: Daunte Culpepper, Gus Frerotte, Shaun Hill (exact amount of playing time still to be determined).

Secondary took a hit last week when CB Brian Williams hurt his knee. He will miss the rest of the preseason.

Ted Cottrell is the Vikings new defensive coordinator.

Coach Mike Tice emphasized the need for a stellar showing in exhibition games - to "play winning football," especially given the heartbreak of how the 2003 season ended on that infamous fourth down in Arizona. "Because of how the season ended, because of the shock and the depression we were in as a football team, winning is the only thing that's going to cure that," Tice said. "So it's important for us to have an exceptional preseason. Winning's a habit. It needs to become a habit."

Atlanta Falcons - QB Rotation: Michael Vick, Ty Detmer, rookie Matt Schaub (exact amount of playing time still to be determined).

Tampa Bay Bucs - QB Rotation: QB Brad Johnson (1 Q), Brian Griese (2 Q), Chris Simms (3 Q), rookie Jason Garrett.

Brad Johnson will start. Unlike last week, Brian Griese will follow Johnson in the first half and Simms will enter in the third quarter.

Jacksonville Jaguars - QB Rotation: Byron Leftwich, Doug Johnson, David Garrard, Quinn Gray (exact amount of playing time still to be determined).

Defensively, the Jaguars have added new schemes like the zone blitz in an attempt to improve their ability to pressure the QB.

Philadelphia Eagles - QB Rotation: Donovan McNabb, Koy Detmer, Jeff Blake, Andy Hall (exact amount of playing time still to be determined).

Offensive line thin.

Baltimore Ravens - QB Rotation: Kyle Boller, Kordell Stewart, rookie Josh Harris (exact amount of playing time still to be determined).

Secondary thin: Starting cornerbacks Chris McAlister (contract dispute) and Gary Baxter (hernia) haven't been practicing.
